    Description

I Have For Sale A Lot Of 1 Collectable Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company "1871 Great Chicago Fire" Ceramic Made In The USA Beer Mug. This mug has an an inscription of the historic 1871 Chicago Fire that destroyed about 3.3 square miles of the city with pictures of the fire painted around the mug, see my pictures for the best description. There are many tales on how the fire started but the most popular tale blames Mrs. O'Leary's cow for knocking over a lantern. This mug is 6 3/4 inches tall, has a 2 1/2 inch opening at the top, and holds 460ml or about 15.55 fluid ounces when filled to the very top. Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company was an American brewery based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin founded by August Krug in 1849. The company passed to Joseph Schlitz in 1858 after Krug's death. The company grew to become the largest producer of beer in the United States. It was sold to Pabst Brewing Company in 1999. The often circulated story of Schlitz's donation of thousands of barrels of beer to the Chicago population after the fire is a modern myth pushed by marketing campaigns. Thank you for viewing my item.
