    DESCRIPTION:
At some point, almost everyone forgot what a car should be.
When we designed the Saab sedan, we didn't design it to be too long, too small, too expensive, too fast, too pretty, too ugly, or to be a part-time boat.
We designed it small enough on the outside to be easy to park (about 7 inches shorter than a VW 411), yet big enough on the inside to be spacious and comfortable (more front head and leg room than a Lincoln Continental Mk IV).
We designed it with a fuel injected 2 liter engine that gives surprising performance (0 to 60 in 12.5 seconds), yet fewer exhaust emissions.
And we designed it with practical features (like a fold-down 9 m a rear seat) and with styling that will still look
new after our car is old.
When we designed and built our 1974 Saab sedan, we remembered all the things almost everyone else seems to have forgotten.
    SAAB. It

s what a car should be.
    We think a car

s controls should be designed to give you more control of the road.
When you're behind the wheel of a car, a lot of things can get in your way when you least expect them. Things like sharp curves, bad weather and other drivers.
So we build our car with fingertip controls on the steering column for high beams, signals, and windshield wipers and washers.
We build it with large easy-to-read gauges and meters that tell you quickly and exactly how our fuel injected 2-liter engine is performing.
And we build it with its shift lever in the most natural place for fast positive action. We also build it with comfortable seats that hold you firmly in place. (We even have an electrically heated driver's seat, because a comfortable driver is a safer driver.) And we build our car with front-wheel drive, rack and pinion steering and power-assisted disc brakes on all four wheels.
With all the things you've got to watch out for on today's roads, we think the people who build your car should help watch out for you.
Saab. It’s what a car should be.
We think a car should have rack and pinion steering. Because you can never count on the weather, the road, or the other guy.
Rack and pinion steering is just about the simplest, most direct, most precise steering system you can get your hands on.
That's why you'll find it in every Saab we build.
We also build Saab sedans with the traction and handling of front-wheel drive, with power-assisted disc brakes on all four wheels, with roll-cage construction, with our dual-diagonal braking system, and with the performance and economy of our 2 liter engine (it'll give you about twice the gas mileage of most full-size domestic cars*).
We build our car with features that make it comfortable, economical, durable and safe. Because even though you can never count on the weather, the road or the other guy, you should at least be able to count
    on your car.

SAAB. It’s what a car should be.
    * As published by the EPA, the average miles-per-gallon for a car of 4,500 lbs. or more is 9.5 MPG or less. The EPA miles-per-gallon performance for a Saab 99 LE is 19.4 MPG.
We think a comfortable interior should be more than thick carpeting and soft seats.
When you're driving on a long trip somewhere, we think you should feel as fresh when you get there as when you started out.
So we engineered our car with seats that adjust to virtually as many different positions as your body. Including fully reclining.
We built electric heating coils (like an electric blanket) into the driver's seat, that warm you on cold winter mornings until the heater warms the car.
We gave our car head-restraints with holes in them. So the people riding in back won't feel like they're sitting in the Grand Canyon. We also gave the people in back their very own heating controls. So they won't feel left out in the cold. And we gave our car big sunny windows. Not just to give you a better look at the scenery, but to give you a better look at other cars around you. And on a trip, that in itself can be very comforting indeed.

We think a car should have front-wheel drive. Because you never know where the road will take you.
Front-wheel drive will give you some remarkable advantages. Especially when the road you started out on turns into something else.
It'll give you excellent traction, for example, to get you through gravel, mud, sand... even snow and ice. Because the weight of the engine and transmission is over the drive wheels.
It makes our car less likely to skid on any kind of road surface, because the drive wheels are ahead of the center of gravity. So our car is more stable and has better directional stability than cars with rear-wheel drive.
And front-wheel drive gives you excellent control and handling. Because the front wheels actually pull you around curves and turns.
We also build our car with the precision of rack and pinion steering, with power-assisted disc brakes on all four wheels, with roll-cage construction, and with the performance and economy of our 2 liter engine (it'll give you about twice the gas mileage of most full size domestic cars.*)
We build our car with features that make it comfortable, economical, durable and safe. Because even though you don't always know where the road will take you, you should at least be sure your car will get you there.
