To find out just how good a road car Saab really is, we decided to have an independent testing company compare it with what we thought was the toughest competition around: a BMW2002.
They ran both cars through a series of performance tests designed to measure those characteristics that make a car a true road car: A skid pad test to measure G-Force in cornering, a slalom course for handling, and of course, acceleration and braking tests.
The results confirmed what we expected. As the chart shows, the Saab and BMW 2002 are quite a match. The Saab was at least an equal in every category. We weren't surprised, but a number of BMW owners may be.
However, don't just take our word for it. There's only one way to find out how good a car really is. Drive it. We did. And look at what happened.

Saab also has rack-and-pinion steering and four-wheel, power-assisted disc brakes. When coupled with front-wheel drive, they give every Saab that sporty handling and quick response needed on today’s crowded roads.
WE BELIEVE HOW FAST A CAR GOES SLOW IS AS IMPORTANT >15 HOW FAST A CAR GOES FAST.
We put large disc brakes on all four wheels of a Saab to assure quick, straight, fade-free stops under any condition. In fact, a Saab can get from 60 mph to 0 mph in only 175 feet. Of course, we also give you a very fast, fuel-injected, 2-liter, over-head cam engine that goes from 0 mph to 60 mph in 9.5 seconds.
WE BELIEVE THERE IS SAFETY IN NUMBERS. FOR EXAMPLE. OUR THREE BRAKING SYSTEMS.
Every Saab also has three braking systems. Two link a front wheel with the opposite rear wheel so if one brake line is damaged the other can still stop the car with evenly distributed braking power.
The third system is the emergency. It is a manual system that works on the front wheels independently of the other two.
WE BELIEVE THE ROOF OVER YOUR HEAD SHOULD BE STRONG ENOUGH TO SUPPORT THE CAR UNDER YOU.
Every Saab is built with roll-cage construction, six solid steel posts to support the roof, door impact panels, and a body designed to absorb impact so that the passenger compartment remains intact in the event of an accident.
