Whaling ship captain Bering Joy (Lionel Barrymore) takes his grandson Jed (Dean Stockwell) along on an expedition, intent on teaching the boy life values, which ensues a battle of wills between the captain and First Mate Lunceford (Richard Widmark).
Set in 19th century Massachusetts, shot on location at Seal Beach, California.
Yellow titled wrappers, noted as SECOND REVISED FIRST DRAFT CONTINUITY on the front wrapper, rubber-stamped copy No. 7 and production No. 143, dated FEBRUARY 10, 1948.
