After one too many liabilities, Joe is demoted from sports writer to gossip columnist at a New York newspaper, especially after the former columnist entered rehab and does not plan to leave. His befriends Samantha Worthington, who gives him the goods on the dirt around the city as she struggles to find a rich husband after her rich father told her he is cutting her off financially. From hating each other to tormenting each other's lives to loving each other, Samantha finds a wealthy Hungarian count to marry and breaks it off in the eleventh hour for Joe, who she has loved this whole time.
