    Post-Production Dialogue Cutting Continuity script for the 1930 film. Small holograph pencil notation to the front wrapper.
    Based on S. S. Van Dine's Philo Vance detective series. At an archery range, a dead body is found shot through the heart, with only a chess bishop left as a clue. In later years, Basil Rathbone would take on another well-known detective role in the 1939 "Sherlock Holmes" series. This film, however, constituted his debut and only performance as the rather more stylish New York investigator.
    White titled wrappers, noted as Dialogue Cutting Continuity on the front wrapper, rubber-stamped copy No. 1739 and production No. 75160, dated Dec. 19, 1929, with credits for film editor William Le Vanway. Title page integral to the front wrapper. 75 leaves, with last page of text numbered Reel 9 Page 7. Mimeograph duplication, rectos only. Pages Very Good plus, wrapper Very Good with light soil and some edgewear, bound at the top edge with two gold brads.
