Based on William Boyd's 1984 novel, about British art scholar Henderson Dores (Lewis), who is sent to rural Georgia to purchase a painting by Renoir. The owner of the painting, hillbilly Loomis Gage (Stanton), claims he bought the painting for 0 in France in 1946. Dores offers ten million, but Gage's scheming son has already promised the painting to an art dealer for fifteen million.
An early starring role for Daniel Day-Lewis, whose most recent Oscar-winning performance came in 2012, with Steven Spielberg's biopic, "Lincoln."
Blue titled wrappers, with die-cut window in the British style. Title page present, dated November 1985, noted as REVISED FINAL DRAFT, with a credit for screenwriter Boyd. 112 leaves, mechanical duplication. Pages Near Fine, wrapper with two closed tears, else Near Fine, internally bound with two silver brads.
