A human cartoonist finds himself inside a mysterious cartoon universe called Cool World, where his fountain pen is lethal and sex with cartoons, or "doodles," is strictly forbidden. Director Ralph Bakshi's return to film after a nine-year hiatus. The film proved to be a massive flop, attributed by Bakshi to extensive rewrites by Paramount executives which softened the film's initial horror elements and led to its release as a teen-friendly fantasy.
