Description

World War One Uniform with 77th Infantry Division Patch with Chevrons, Medals, History and Rhymes of the Lost Battalion book, photographs and Documentation. This uniform belonged to Private Emory James Beardsley, Service Number 1707242. His service Record included indicates he had a 30% service connected disability.  On the left sleeve is the 77th Division Patch, the red discharge chevron and a gold threaded wound/ overseas cevron. The WWI victory medal has a Aisne-Marne battle clasp and a star indicating a citation for bravery.  The red white and blue ribbon is a wartime service recongniton medal from Wayne County New York where this service member was born. The two additional ribbons were given to the serviceman by the Veterans of Foreign Wars in recognition of wartime service.  Both the pants and the coat were tailor made by Marks Arnheim Inc. Tailors & Importers of Broadway and 9th Street, New York City.  The pants are labeled 32"x30".  The web belt measures 38" long and is labeled Mills 332 with patent date 12/04.
Both Garments have all buttons and clasps present
and functional.
There are a few small moth holes photographed on the back of the jacket
and pants
that do not detract from the display.

The framed 307th infantry photograph found with the uniform is fragile and 40"x9" long so
it will arrive separately from the uniform package.
The 77th Infantry Division was nicknamed the "Metropolitan Division" because many but not all of it's members were from New York City.  It is a highly decorated and documented unit. The 307th Infantry Regiment was part of the 77th and trained at Camp Upton on Long Island. They set sail for France on April 9th aboard the transport ship "SS Justica" with heavy destroyer and battleship escort.  The Regiment reached Calais France by April 20th.  In
May 1918 it was attached to the British 42nd (East Lancashire) Division
for additional battle training.
Thereafter the regiment participated in the following campaigns:
Chateau Thierry,
Oise-Aisne-Marne, Meuse Argonne, Champagne and Lorraine.
Company K was a member of the "Lost Battalion."
After completing its war service in France
, the regiment sailed to New York City aboard the "USS America"
The regiment demobilized back at Camp Upton on 9 May 1919.
Throughout their service in France the 77th Division sustained 10,194 casualties- 1,486 were killed in action and 8,708 were wounded.
